OD stands for Oculus Dexter (LATIN Abbreviations for Right Eye). OS stands for Oculus Sinister (LATIN Abbreviations for Left Eye)
SPH (SPHERICAL) is measurement in Diopters and it is the amount of lens power needed to correct nearsightedness or far sightedness. Minus (-) sign indicates nearsightedness and Plus (+) sign indicates farsightedness. Nearsighted people typically experience blur when looking at objects that are far away. Farsighted people typically see things well when far away, but encounter blur when looking at things close up.
CYL (CYLINDER) is measurement in Diopters and is the amount of lens power needed to correct Astigmatism. Astigmatism is caused by an irregular shaped cornea. If you have cylindrical number, means the eye is not fully round but oval shape.
AXIS is the direction of the astigmatism, measured in degrees. The number is not related to how well you can see but it helps the lab know what angle to position your lenses in the frame. PRISM tells you the amount of prismatic power needed to correct eye alignment problems. However, only a small percentage of eyeglass prescriptions have this.
ADD its additional plus power needed for near vision correction.
